State legislature votes down solar incentives in Texas

Texas, one of America’s sunniest states, has voted down legislation bringing solar power incentives to the state.

Among other things, the defeat of the bills means homeowners get no help purchasing solar power; homeowners’ associations can still deny, with relative ease, solar panel construction; solar companies looking to set up manufacturing plants will postpone their relocations to Texas; and thousands of jobs that could be created by the industry will not exist.

The only solar bill that did pass allows homeowners to pay back the cost of the solar panels through 20 years of increased property taxes.
