Tennessee has recruited another major plant to the Volunteer State.

The Tennessean reports that German manufacturer Wacker Chemie AG will construct a billion-dollar plant polycrystalline silicon facility in Bradley County, north of Chattanooga.  Polycrystalline silicon is a key component used in the production of solar-energy cells.  The manufacturing plant will compete with Hemlock Semiconductor which announced plans in December for a polycrystalline silicon plant in Clarksville.

The Wacker Chemie announcement is another step toward Gov. Bredesen's goal of making Tennessee a leader in renewable energy.
